IMAGES OF CREATION:A Traveling Exhibit at the Hill Cumorah Visitors' Center
When I was a child, growing up in southern Nevada, our family would often visit the family ranch in the isolated mountains, far from the bright city lights. We would sleep outdoors on warm summer nights. I remember how much I loved laying on my back and gazing up into the heavens. In these clear nights the stars were brilliant and seemed close enough to reach out and touch. The Milky Way was distinct and magnificent. We loved to see falling stars and to watch satellites go slowly by.
So I was excited when the long awaited NASA Traveling Exhibit arrived yesterday at the Hill Cumorah Visitors' Center. The exhibit celebrates the Hubble Space telescope which has been orbiting the earth at an altitude of about 370 miles since April 1990. It was released into space by the Space Shuttle Discovery. The pictures taken by the Hubble Telescope are stunning and the display also includes scriptures and scientific information about each picture.
I couldn't resist taking pictures of the pictures, so now you have your own virtual tour of our exhibit. Enjoy!
And also that ye might know of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and that ye might know of the signs of his coming, to the intent that ye might believe on his name. Helaman 14: 12
And, behold, thou art my son; wherefore look, and I will show thee the workmanship of mine hands; but not all, for my works are without end, and also my words, for they never cease. Moses 1: 4
And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten. But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them. Moses 1: 33, 35
And as one earth shall pass away, and the heavens thereof even so shall another come; and there is no end to my works, neither to my words. For behold, this is my work and my glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Moses 1: 38-39
Thus I, Abraham, talked with the Lord, face to face, as one man talketh with another; and he told me of the works which his hands had made; And he said unto me: My son, my son (and his hand was stretched out), behold I will show you all these. And he put his hand upon mine eyes, and I saw those things which his hands had made, which were many; and they multiplied before mine eyes, and I could not see the end thereof. Abraham 3: 11-12
This one is Elder Watts' favorite.
And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings; Which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space.
Doctrine and Covenants 88: 11-12
He comprehendeth all things, and all things are before him, and all things are round about him; and he is above all things, and in all things, and is through all things, and is round about all things; and all things are by him, and of him, even God, forever and ever.
Doctrine and Covenants 88: 41
This on is my favorite. Which one do you like best?
Behold, all these are kingdoms, and any man who hath seen any or the least of these hath seen God moving in his majesty and power.
Doctrine and Covenants 88: 47
I am so appreciative of the Gospel Knowledge of one of our late apostles, Neal A. Maxwell who passed away in 2004. I always looked forward to being taught by him at our Church's General Conference Meetings twice a year. So I am pleased to share this video of his testimony of Jesus Christ and the magnificent universe.
