THE HILL CUMORAH PAGEANT: The Production - Part VIi

Here is the final installment of the Hill Cumorah Pageant story:

The prophecies of Samuel the Lamanite did come to pass.  After tempests, earthquakes, fires, whirlwinds, and physical upheavals that attested to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, darkness covered the land for three days. Then  Jesus Christ appeared and proclaimed His atonement as depicted in the two pictures below.

"And it came to pass . . .that they cast their eyes up again toward heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; . . .And it came to pass that he spake unto the people saying: Behold I am Jesus Christ whom the prophets testified shall come into the world."

Christ then invited the multitude to come forward and feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet that they might know that he was the God of the whole earth and had been slain for the sins of the world.

So the multitude did go forth one by one until they had all gone forth and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands and knew for sure that he was Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

Then Jesus asked them to bring their sick, lame, blind, halt, or maimed, or any that were afflicted in any manner.  He said, "Bring them hither and I will heal them, . . ." And he did heal every one of them.

Then he commanded that all of the little children should be brought to him.  Then ". . .he took their little children, one by one and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them."

While Jesus was with them he taught them His Gospel and organized His Church, just as he had done during his earthly life while in Jerusalem.

Finally Jesus Christ was caught up into heaven.

This was a glorious time in the land, for 200 years the Lord blessed all the people and there was no contention in all the land  "because of  the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people."

 The rest of the pageant depicted Moroni, an ancient prophet depositing the plates of the record (history) of his people in a stone box in the Hill Cumorah.  Then in September 1823 this same prophet, now an angel, visited Joseph Smith, a young man and told him about the record.  Four years later Moroni delivered the plates to Joseph and by the gift and power of God Joseph translated the plates.  In 1830 The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ was published and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized.

I remember when I read 3 Nephi for the first time as a young girl in Jr. High School, how excited I was reading about Jesus Christ appearing in the Americas and how I wished I could have been there.  It is one of my favorite parts of the Book of Mormon, a book which I know is true.
